Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 (NSW) 2012 Review

Public Comments, Review of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 (NSW)

A number of recommendations and proposals have been made for changes to the ALRA. Some recommendations arise from the Working Group's report Facilitation to Enable not Frustration to Disable - Aboriginal Land Rights Act Review 2012 - Report of Findings and Recommendations of the Working Group [Pdf 13.6mb]. Other proposals arise from discussions between Aboriginal Affairs New South Wales and the New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council subsequent to the tabling of the Working Group's report.

The recommendations and proposals for changes to the ALRA are set out in three papers: Consultation Paper: Land Claims, Housing and Regulation [Pdf 5.5mb], Consolidated Recommendations and Proposals [Pdf 3mb], and Discussion Paper: Regulatory Reform [Pdf 5.8mb].

The New South Wales Government, in consultation with the New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council, invite feedback on the initiatives proposed through open community workshops and written submissions.

In August and early September this year (2013) a series of nine regional public consultation workshops will be held throughout New South Wales. These workshops provide the opportunity for people to comment and give feedback on the recommendations and proposals for changes to the ALRA contained in the three papers.

If you are unable to attend a meeting, or wish to provide further feedback, submissions can be made in writing to alrareview@oralra.nsw.gov.au or posted to:
